I have heard of Blockbuster Burgers for a while but they have always been out of range or not in the area. Now I have a burger spot to recommend if someone is going around Victoria Park. The puns in the menu made me smile, and I’m excited to visit the place in person.
How tasty is the Motherf*#$&r? – 8.5/10
After the first bite, “Wild Things” happened, I felt “Tremors” under my feet, and I got “Footloose”. A proper “First Class” delivery, my dear Kevin Bacon. There was a bit of “The Darkness” though…
The burger had:
- Beef Patty
- Smoked Bacon
- Mature Cheddar
- Lettuce
- Tomato
- Onion Jam
- Pickled Red Onion
- Brioche Bun
The score is high because of the great meat in the burger. The patty wasn’t too big, but it was very well seasoned. The cut had a good proportion between lean and fat, and it was considering the bacon. Although thinner (it was a wide burger), it still managed to remain juicy in the middle and had an excellent tasty char on the outside. The bacon was bloody gorgeous. This is maybe the best bacon I have had even and especially on a burger. It was thick so it wasn’t only for texture. It was strong and very flavourful but somehow wasn’t dominating everything else, and I enjoyed that. It struck a perfect balance, and you could also feel the beef patty and trust me, not too many places can do it right.
The cheddar was for sure the right choice of cheese, especially with that bacon. It provided nice depth and nuttiness, and it was present in every bite; I liked that. However, I can’t say that for the rest of the ingredients.
Individually the tomato was OK, the lettuce was a bit too little for my taste (put some or don’t put at all), the onion jam was nice but nothing mind-blowing, the red onions were lovely but too little. And some ingredients were present in one bite, some in other, and I maybe had 1-2 bites of the whole experience. There was some balance to the flavours, but every bite that didn’t have the pickled onions was a worse one. Don’t get me wrong, it was still pretty good, but getting that right could push it for a 10/10.
I liked the chills mayo because it had character, and it gave a tiny bit of hotness. Although, at some point, with all the sauces, mayo, and jam, I realised that the fluffy brioche ended up being quite soggy. The brioche was the right size for the burger.
Burger joint venue and overall experience? – 8/10
Their fries were pretty damn good. And they had a plethora of sides to select from together with a selection of drinks. It seems like an excellent burger joint
Quirkiness level of the experience? – 6/10
It was more or less a classic British Burger recipe with a bacon twist. The theming of the menu and the venue helps too.
