Lawless City Burgers is a fairly new van in the area I live and I’ve already had two burgers that I liked. Decided to go back and try another one. This time it was a simpler burger that is a simple classic. Simple burgers like these are one of the easiest ways to judge the execution at a burger place.
How tasty is the Motherf*#$&r? – 5/10
This is a very classic burger recipe with a light sauce twist that does hit you nostalgically yet delivers something more.
The burger had:
- Smashed Beef Patty
- American Cheese
- Might n Right Sauce
- Potato Bun
As you may know, I’m a fan of smashed patties. They are very popular nowadays so I have had my fair share of those and I know exactly what to look for. The previous time I had a Lawless City Burger smashed patty there were plenty of other toppings that generally made it work well as a recipe although I still had criticism for it. But this time the meat had nothing to hide behind and the problems shined through even more. Smashed patties rely on this amazing char you can get on the top and bottom of the patty that gives that deep beef flavour and a nice texture to it. In this case, it was simply thinned out and cooked through. And although delicious and well seasoned it didn’t provide the juiciness of thick burger patty or the intensity of a smashed one. Considering this was one of the few things on the burger the negatives were very obvious.
The American cheese wasn’t a bad choice, it was present in the bites and it melted through. It gave that junky feel that you expect from a cheeseburger. The sauce was pretty good, a twist of a classic burger sauce. It didn’t blow my mind but it was good
The bread bun was a bit more than it should have been for this kind of burger. If there were two patties it was going to be perfect. Sadly it wasn’t toasted but it was fresh, fluffy and delicious.
Burger joint venue and overall experience? – 3/10
Cheesy fries weren’t anything special. Just American cheese melted over blanched curly fries. Would have loved more character for the fries or better cheese on top.
Quirkiness level of the experience? – 1/10
It’s a cheeseburger.
