I have been craving some lamb burgers recently and I decided to go for one from Brewdog. They have always had interesting recipes and it is one of the best places for me to hang out. It is like the hipster Millennial Wetherspoons. I have been quite impressed with some of the previous things I have tried.

How tasty is the Motherf*#$&r? – 4.5/10
This is for sure one of the weakest food experiences I have had at Brewdog. There were several things that didn’t work as expected. I have tried a similar recipe with the BabaG burgers so I knew what to expect more or less.
The Burger had:
- Lamb Patty
- Onion Bhajis (deep-fried onions but better)
- Yogurt Mint
- Mango Chutney
- White Seeded Bun
The meat was one of the main issues. Lamb is difficult meat to work with. It has a signature flavour but many people find it intense and can be challenging to soften it or balance it out. One way you do that is via spices that bring the right flavours out. Or you can do like Brewdog and just chuck an enormous amount of spice so it tastes like a generic Indian spiced meat. This could have been any meat and I don’t think the flavour was going to be different. It was way too intense. This was going to be fine if it impacted only the patty but the spices overwhelmed the other ingredients.
Onion bhajis have great texture but their flavour was completely lost in between everything else.
The mango chutney is a lovely ingredient that you tend to associate with Indian food and is very delicious and sweet. The right amount and the balance shines through, too much and the sweetness starts to hit you hard. In this case, it was quite sweet, which made it at least a bit more distinguishable from the spice wave that was the patty. However, on its own, it was flavourful and had a nice kick to it.
The yoghurt is usually there with lamb to strike balance. To be the yin to the heavy yang flavours. Sadly that wasn’t the case, it was mostly missing and present only in few bites.
The bun was nice. It was fluffy but not soggy and seemed the right choice for the flavours.
Burger joint venue and overall experience? – 10/10
Brewdog is one of my favourite places to visit. Great choice of beer, pretty good food and lovely atmosphere. The fries and sides are delicious and let’s face it there is nothing better than a good beer following a good burger bite.
Quirkiness level of the experience? – 7/10
Lamb patties aren’t as popular as I would expect. Most lamb recipes play it safe
