I have been slow to publish my reviews but I have been having a bit of a longer break. So expect a bit of spam from me in the coming weeks. One of the new places I visited during my last stay in Sofia, Bulgaria was Burger Faktory. It is a name I have heard for a while but it was never on my way. I was expecting a bit more but it had good foundations and it can definitely be better
How tasty is the Motherf*#$&r? – 6/10
The burger has very good foundations. There is something with the proportions and the sizes of the meat and the bun that don’t work out and that is one of the main issues with it, lets dive deeper.
- Beef Patty
- Smoked Cheddar
- Tomato
- Red Onion
- Lettuce
- Heinz
- Pickles
- White Burger Bun
The burger patty is hand-pressed and I have to say I was expecting less. It was well cooked it was juicy and very well seasoned. Few things that don’t always happen at the same time. Yes, it could have been more pinkish or the cut for the meat could have been fattier but generally, it was a very good burger. They were using some “minced meat” Bulgarian spice which I really appreciated, it wasn’t strange it just fitted a classic burger experience. The patty was a bit small for the size of the bun and that was an issue. The bites, in the beginning, didn’t have enough of the patty and it was overwhelming towards the middle of the burger.
The cheddar was nice. It was the correct cheese for a classic recipe. It was all over the patty and it was well melted but I think it was again… the bread that made it a bit lacking.
I generally liked the salady part of the burger. The lettuce was shredded but it was less than it should be in my opinion, either put more or don’t put at all. The tomato was OK, I have definitely had better in Bulgaria and worse elsewhere. The pickles and the onion provided that acidity, sharpness and brightness through the bites. If the bread wasn’t as overwhelming maybe it was going to be much tastier. The sauce didn’t help up with the roundup between the salad and the patty. It was simple Heinz burger sauce, which isn’t bad necessarily but the sauce is what gives your burger soul most of the time and here it was just lacking.
The bread was the biggest issue. It was both very tall and bready but also much wider than the patty allowed for. Because it was so much it made the whole burger feel quite dry and you couldn’t shine with the flavour. If I can recommend one thing to fix for the burger is, reduce the size of the bun.
Burger joint venue and overall experience? – 4/10
A burger joint with a large selection of burgers but not as many sides or drinks. Didn’t have the opportunity to try the fries so I can’t say much about that.
Quirkiness level of the experience? – 1/10
Nothing quirky here.
