I realised I didn’t have a burger in the pipeline for review… which is very rare. So I went back to a recent favourite Greedy Cow. Last time I was very impressed by their patty execution and their sauces so I had high expectations and I wasn’t disappointed!
How tasty is the Motherf*#$&r? – 8.5/10
In contrast to the previous burger I had, this one worked with many ingredients and very heavy flavours. I tend to gravitate towards heavy flavours but the truth is they rarely work out well
The burger had:
- Beef Patty
- Reblochon Cheese
- Crispy Onions
- Pickles
- Saucisson
- Lettuce
- Tomato
- Brioche
The beef patty was again really good. I would say, not as amazing as last time but still among the best I have had. Loads of flavour decent seasoning (could have been a bit better). You get that beef flavour through every bite and even though there are heavy flavours it is never put on the backfoot. There was a good tasty char on the outside and it was juicy in the middle. From the meat side of things, I was a bit conflicted on the saucisson. It didn’t have the classic flavour you would expect, was very… stretchy in the bites. It still provided a lot of depth of flavour. If it was diced and in a more classic styled it would have worked better IMO.
I should use Reblochon more in my recipes… first time I’m having this cheese in a burger and boy does it work well. It melts great, it has a very specific nutty and heavy flavour and it goes great with the meat. It is strong enough on its own so it isn’t lost in between the other heavy flavours. Really loved it and I’m looking forward to using it again.
The crispy onions were both a highlight and a letdown. This is maybe the best crispy onions version I have had in a burger. They were actually crispy the texture was great; the crunch was following through every bite. However, I was hoping for a more oniony (it is a real word) flavour. Not sure if it was the types of onions used or something else but I was expecting a bit more.
The Dijon mustard was a great choice. I swear to God they use a version with a little truffle oil but it could have hinted from the rest of the heavy ingredients. It wasn’t too sharp and it was mellowed out with some mayo so I was missing the kick a bit. It is a preference though.
The lettuce and the tomato were both the biggest let down in the burger. Tomato was very plain and lacked flavour or character. The Lettuce was only a single leaf and provided nothing to the whole experience. Either double down and have that pallet cleansing green or just get rid of it.
Burger joint venue and overall experience? – 9/10
Had the chicken wings and they were just as good as last time. I was a bit disappointed with the coleslaw as it was drenched in mayo (recently I have become a coleslaw expert)
Quirkiness level of the experience? – 3/10
Nothing special or quirky about the burger. But it isn’t every day you eat a gorgeous patty
