We survived 2020 it was a difficult year for everyone but it has passed! I’m glad I managed to spend a month in Bulgaria back in September to catch up with family, friends and the burger scene ( see I have my priorities straight! ) . The restaurant business was affected by all the lockdowns and measures so make sure to support local business when you can. You don’t have to be in the place to eat, you can always order online!
So here is my list of the best burgers I tried for 2020 in Bulgaria!
#3 ViVenda’s Beef Bacon Burger – 9/10
I had the pleasure to try ViVenda in Sofia in the beginning of 2020. It was a highly recommended place by many so I had high expectation and I wasn’t disappointed. The meat quality is outstanding and the patty was full of flavour (it is a butcher shop with a burger join attached to it the end of the day) I loved the use of a class Bulgarian style white bun. The recipe is a classic and what made it great was the execution and the quality of the ingredients for sure. If you are in Sofia and looking for a bite you won’t go wrong!
#2 Corner Burger’s Smashed Burger – 9/10
Corner Burger is a burger joint in Varna and I have been there before. This was the first time I have seen smashed patties there and in Bulgaria. You all know I’m a sucker for smashed patties and the Smashed burger delivered for sure. This is one of the two junk food burgers in the Bulgaria Top 3 list. It is very meaty and it is quite filling. The flavours are there and the execution of the patties is great. Few tweaks and this could be an easy 10/10 !
#1 Happy’s Black Angus Burger – 9.5/10
The top places both in London and Bulgaria have been a huge surprise, this one I had in Sofia. Happy is a restaurant chain which is popular for its semi-processed but none the less tasty food. It was the place I least expected to receive a high score but here it is. It is a very junky food burger, quite greasy and simple but it hits just the right spot. Although junk style it is using Angus beef and the flavour is there for sure. Few but very intense and balanced flavours wrapped in a classic recipe with quality in the right products. Good job Happy you made me… happy!
I hope 2021 is much better for everyone and it brings a lot of tasty burgers!
