The first burger I tried from Union Diner was a bit disappointing. They have an interesting recipe and quality ingredients but the execution was a bit off. Check it out here if you want. This one had a cool recipe and did much better than expected.

How tasty is the Motherf*#$&r? – 7/10

I have had similar recipes before and I enjoy them a lot. Korean style burgers bring a lot of interesting flavour to the table but what you are looking for is quality since the execution tends to be much simpler.

The Burger had:

  • 7oz Beef Patty
  • Egg
  • Kimchi
  • Lettuce
  • Cilantro
  • Sour Cream
  • Ketchup Kimchi Mayo
  • Brioche Bun

The patty game was similar to the previous burger. Quality but not as flavourful as you would expect. It was slightly better salted than the previous but it could have used a bit more salt and pepper the very least. You want the salt activating that beef flavour. But there is little beef taste to activate when you have a lean cut of meat. I honestly don’t believe you can have a great burger with a lean patty ( Hope I get proven wrong ). Good size of the patty and the Swiss meat compensated a lot!.

Even though we were in Switzerland I’m happy there was no unnecessary cheese in the burger. The recipe didn’t require it. What it had was kimchi but sadly not spicy enough. It had good texture but I would have preferred the kimchi flavour to be more potent. The sauce had kimchi as well but again couldn’t bring that intensity around.

The egg was a very good baseline to build the other flavours around and it worked really well. Great with the beef, great with the sauces and great with the salad. I really like eggs on burgers.

I think the cilantro and sour cream are a great combination but they would make more sense in my head if the bites were very spicy and intense and you needed a pallet reset, in this case they were simply part of the salad.

Burger joint venue and overall experience? – 7/10

The burger joint was great. Good selection of burgers. Few good draft beers and absolutely great fries!! I loved them and I recommend them 100%!!

Quirkiness level of the experience? – 7/10

The recipe was interesting and I think with better execution the burger could have killed it.
