This is the second burger I tried from Buns and Bao ( and sadly the last since they have only two burgers). I don’t regularly try chicken burger as there is a part of me that thinks it is cheating. Normally I would consider a burger only minced style patties “BURGERS”, but chicken burgers are popular enough so I can’t always ignore them. And sometimes I just wanna try some crispy bird.

How tasty is the Motherf*#$&r? – 8.5/10

There is a lot of charm in a simple recipe that is done the well. This is the story for the Buns and Bao Korean burger. I love that there are few ingredients. I wouldn’t add anything to this burger just improve a bit some of the condiments.

The burger had:

  • Fried Korean Style Chicken
  • Salvadorian Slaw
  • Spicy Mayo
  • Brioche

The chicken leg was one of the juiciest meats I have tried. And anyone who has tried to cook a chicken well knows it is a difficult job. It was moist, full of flavour. The fried exterior was crunchy and wasn’t greasy, which I really appreciated. The crust was full of flavour. It was for sure the best chicken I have had on a burger and maybe one of the top executions in general.

I liked the fact that there weren’t any cheeses and unnecessary ingredients. The slaw was the other significant feature of the burger. It was good, but I didn’t get the same WOW  as the chicken. It was slightly acidic and nice balanced, but I was hoping for a bit more flavour from it. It combined great with the lightly spiced mayo although I would have preferred a bit more hotness in the sauce. As everyone knows mayo is one of the best condiments for chicken so there I have nothing against that. A bit more punch from the slaw and this could have gone for the 10/10

The brioche was tasty, delicate crust, soft and soaked the juices very well. It was a great holder for the chicken, and the sesame finish was felt throughout the bites.

Burger joint venue and overall experience? – 5/10

Since I’m doing keto (but I can make an excuse for a burger), I decided to go for the Caesar salad side, which was great. Tasty, fresh and great sauce and I also got a small bottle of wine for free, which is also lovely!

Quirkiness level of the experience? – 4/10

The Korean style fried chicken was done well. However I would have loved a Korean style sauce.
