There are few more burger joints in the area that I haven’t ordered from. Buns & Bao is one of them, and although they have a limited selection, their burgers look very interesting. I’ve always liked fusion burgers; however, this one was very far away from the Korean culture. Nonetheless, it was pretty damn good.

How tasty is the Motherf*#$&r? – 8.5/10

Truffle is a condiment rarely used in burgers and when it, it’s a hit or miss most of the time. This is one of the more successful additions, and I really enjoyed it and how it rounded up the burger.

The burger had:

  • Beef Patty
  • Processed Cheese
  • Cured Bacon
  • Caramelized shallots
  • Truffle Mayo
  • Lettuce
  • Brioche

The beef was of high quality, it was juicy and cooked medium. It was prepared quite well. Flavour was there since it was from a good cut, but I think it could have used a bit more spices to enhance the taste. If you have truffle oil and bacon, you can’t have such a purist approach for the patty. The bacon was really well made and delicious. That is one of the reasons why the beef isn’t as prominent. The bacon was a much bigger centrepiece for the burger.

I liked the cheese, but it lacked in few of the bites, maybe a bit more should have been added? I think the processed cheddar wasn’t the best choice considering the other ingredients it did quite well non the less.

The sauce is where this burger was king. The caramelized shallots were absolutely delightful. They were sweet and tangy, brought a lot of flavours and combined great with the rest of the ingredients. The truffle oil was another hit. The fattiness of the mayo with the flavour of the truffle and smokiness of the bacon was an amazing experience. I really did enjoy the combination of characters the sauces brought and how they interacted with the rest of the burger. I will most probably steal the idea.

The sesame brioche was tasty fluffy, yet it firmly held all the sauces. The lettuce was a bit missing and unnecessary, but it didn’t leak any of the sauces out so no significant errors with it.

Burger joint venue and overall experience? – 5/10

Since I’m doing keto (but I can make an excuse for a burger) , I decided to go for the Caesar salad side, which was great. Tasty, fresh and great sauce and I also got a small bottle of wine for free, which is also lovely!

Quirkiness level of the experience? – 6/10

Truffle is not a popular ingredient, and it is interesting to see it used successfully in a burger recipe. I was sad there wasn’t much Korean influence but nonetheless, a great burger.
