The second burger I tried from Bun-Believable was the New York Tower burger. The burger still felt very close to a McDonald’s style burger. It was closer to a good Quarter Pounder with cheese. My biggest issue was the name and the expectations with it. Having ‘tower’ in the name I was expecting some double-decking and with ‘New York’ I was hoping for pastrami and not bacon.

How tasty is the Motherf*#$&r? – 6.5/10

The burger was pretty good. Again embracing this McDonald’s feel but it had avocado about of all condiments… an interesting choice

The burger had:

  • Beef Patty (2x I doubled it)
  • Bacon
  • Cheese
  • Tomato
  • Lettuce
  • Avocado
  • Mayo
  • White Bun

The patty was the same as the one in the previous burger. Although it says it was handmade, it felt much more of a pre-made, frozen patty. That doesn’t mean it was bad, on the contrary I really liked the patty as it was full of flavour and spice. That combined with the bacon pretty well. Although it was from the crispy type which I don’t like as much the flavour balance was there and neither was overpowering. The patty was juicy and the overall meat execution very nice!

The cheese  was a bit more on the lacking side especially with the bacon there. It had a bit of that processed cheese feel that goes well on a diner/junk style burger but more was needed even if it was only a single patty.

The salad was nice but a bit lacking. The lettuce was shredded and provided that crunchiness and fresh flavour. I loved the tomato flavour but the slices were very thin and the burger simply needed more. The avocado was the strangest add to the burger. It didn’t provide a needed flavour, it was there but you could feel it mostly because it was difficult to chew because it was green. I didn’t enjoy it and it was completely unnecessary ingredient.

The white bun was fluffy but firm, holding the burger well, the one thing I would have added was more sauce or in this case mayo. although I think a classic burger sauce would have gone perfectly.

Burger joint venue and overall experience? – 6/10

The fries were very tasty. They are one of the reason my whole meal had such a McDonalds feel, they had the smell but were much, much better. The whole flat had that signature smell after I opened the package and this is the kind of excitement you want from a meal.

Quirkiness level of the experience? – 8/10

Everyone has that junk food nostalgia of your first bite of McDonalds. However every time you take a bite from a McD burger you feel… disappointed. The flavour is not really as your mind remembers it. But this is exactly what Bun Believable did, they brought that nostalgia burger experience, a rarity
