I know it is quarantine time and you shouldn’t (can’t ) go out for a burger. But you can order one and especially if you like a specific place, order food from time to time because you are supporting the business. I’m a few weeks behind on my reviews. But habits are important especially now with Isolation, so here is a review from my most recent visit to Patty & Bun a month ago. Their Liverpool Street branch reopened so I was back for a review.

How tasty is the Motherf*#$&r? – 6.5/10

Patty and Bun have always had these juicy

The burger had:

  • Beef patty
  • Cheese
  • Lettuce
  • Tomato
  • Pickled Onions
  • Ketchup
  • Smokey P&B Mayo
  • Brioche

Patty and Bun’s patties have been a hit or miss in my opinion. They are not bad but frequently the meat isn’t the centerpiece of the burger. The meat is very plain, just salted. It is very juicy but I think a patty like that would work with a much simpler recipe. Few more spices or better choice of ingredients can fix this.

The cheese was good. I’m not sure I approve of the processed style cheese but it is tasty…
It was nicely melted through the entire burger, present in every bite and completed the cheeseburger feel perfectly. There wasn’t any gourmet style complexity, just good old cheeseburger nostalgia. I think they get that very right.

The pickled onions are the other highlight of the burger. They are delicate, provide this nice acidity and compliment the cheeseburger feel perfectly. I have started to enjoy more and more pickled onions because they are a great relish for any burger. However the rest of the ‘Salad’ is lacking. -1 point for non shredded lettuce. With a juicy burger like that and a flat leaf of lettuce ALL my sauce goes to waste to my paper and not into my patty, please shred the lettuce ( I should make a T-Shirt with that slogan). You also know I’m a spoiled brat when it comes to tomatoes. Once you know what a good tomato on burger should taste like you quickly get disappointed from ‘eh’ tomatoes. It isn’t horrible but it is a part that can be improved significantly.

The brioche is tasty, and it provides the right level of sweetness. It gets soggy very quickly which I find it to be a feature not a bug of the execution. You know the good feel of a soggy last bite…

Burger joint venue and overall experience? – 7/10

You have great sides, good choice of drinks. They have these monthly rotating burgers which I should try more of.

Quirkiness level of the experience? – 3/10

I don’t think there is anything quirky about a classic burger.
