When I was visiting McDonald’s I couldn’t have gone only for a BigMac. I had to try one of the other classics the Quarter Pounder. I wasn’t sure which one of the two I was going to prefer but after the first bite, it was obvious. My McDonald’s guilty food is the cheeseburger and the Quarter Pounder looks feels and tastes much more like a cheeseburger on steroids. I put a poll on my story to check what people thought, “Is the Quarter Pounder better than the Big Mac?” and there was a close winner – the Quarter Pounder, which matched my expectations

How tasty is the Motherf*#$&r? – 3/10

Although a McDonalds cheeseburger is my guilty pleasure and the Quarter Pounder looks and feel like it a lot I was still dissapointed by it once I put my critique hat on.

The burger had:

  • “Beef” Patty
  • Processed Cheddat
  • Lettuce
  • Dill Pickle Slices
  • Onions
  • Quarter Pounder Bun

I challenge anyone to try the McDonald’s meat patty on its own. You would be amazed how much a meat looking thing barely taste like one. Older versions of plant based burgers bare more resemblance. The beef burger was a bit better than the BigMac one. Was it the quantity or the tiny pieces of onion? …I’m not sure, but I think we have an upgrade from carboard to carboard with onions, it was more meaty for sure. I think the Quarter Pounder patty had a bit more presence compared to the Big Mac’s one. If you have a bite through the burger you will notice something is missing.

I think the signature taste of the McDonald’s burgers, as noted in my last blog post, is coming from the dill pickle and the onions with the ketchup. It is such a classic taste and it hits so well that the entire essence of the burger is carried in it in my opinion. And good flavour concistency between the McDonald’s burgers is coming exactly from there, doesn’t matter if it is a Quarter Pounder, a Big Mac or a Cheeseburger.

The processed cheese is felt more compared to the BigMac but is is still a bit overshadowed by the amount of circle brown thingy (meat) in the middle. So you get a hint of that classic flavour and a bit of fattiness in your bite. I’m glad they add two slices

The bun was ok, a bit too dry for my taste but it had flavour and carried that classic McDonald’s aroma.

Overall my McDonald’s experience is exactly what I expected. Tasty for the inner child riding that nostalgia wave from the first times you have had a burger but once looked objectively it all falls down. But you can’t eliminate that nostalgia feeling from the burger so that is why you get the 3/10.

Burger joint venue and overall experience? – 3/10

I know there are a lot of people who like the McDonald’s fries but I’m not one of them. Verry plastic, dry and lack good flavour so I was more excited with my burgers than my side for sure.

Getting a soft drink from a machine always taste worse compared to having a bottle so even the drinks were dissapointing.

Quirkiness level of the experience? – 1/10

Nothing quirky about it. Although with all the hipster, Millenium burger joints in London, going to McDonalds is a hipster act on its own!
