For some time now I have been thinking that I need to set a baseline for the burgers that I review. And what a better way to do that than to review the most famous burger chain in the world – McDonald’s. Although they have pivoted many times through the years McDonald’s is still is a popular place to pop for a burger especially when you crave that junk food or have that drunk hunger.

How tasty is the Motherf*#$&r? – 2.5/10

I have always enjoyed a Big Mac especially when I require shitty  soul food but I have never looked it with my critique hat on so I decided to the exactly that but it was a… dissapointment.

The burger had:

  • “Beef” Patty
  • Processed Cheddat
  • Lettuce
  • Dill Pickle Slices
  • Onions
  • Lettuce
  • Big Mac Bun

So lets start with the cardboard, I mean the burger patty. Not sure if any of you has ever tried the McDonalds beef patty on its own but the lack everything. It  has a dry texture, it doesn’t break like a burger, the taste of beef is missing and the colour ain’t promissing either. Even when you take a bite through the Big Mac it doesn’t matter if the patty is in the middle, all the flavour is coming from the other ingredients and the patty is just that brown meaty thing for substance. The only reason it is a “burger” is because it is ground beef in the right colour and in between bread.

I have to admit that the processed cheddar is one of the things that make the burger look good and the taste can be felt even with a thin slice because the patty is underperforming so much. The combination of the cheese with the burger sauce is where the “non salad” flavour of the burger is coming from.

Talking about sauce, the Big Mac sauce is simply good on its own or with the salad ingredients but has no interaction with the cardboard. The best part about the whole burger and the reason it has such a high score are the pickles, onions and shredded lettuce (yes even McDonald’s knows that you need to shred your lettuce). The pickle with the onion together with the sauce in a burger bite bring out that classic McDonald’s flavour for me. It has nothing to do with the cheese or the meat, it is all about the relish and the sauce in between the famous McDonald’s buns.

Talking about the buns they are weird. They have that specific smell and flavour which is also a signature to the McDonald’s experience. It isn’t great, it isn’t nicely toasted, it is too soft and frequently squished too much but it does the job and is tasty.

McDonald’s taste I think will always be more of a nostalgia than anything else. It hits you way back when you were young and had your first burger bite.

Burger joint venue and overall experience? – 3/10

I know there are a lot of people who like the McDonald’s fries but I’m not one of them. Verry plastic, dry and lack good flavour so I was more excited with my burgers than my side for sure.

Getting a soft drink from a machine always taste worse compared to having a bottle so even the drinks were dissapointing.

Quirkiness level of the experience? – 1/10

Nothing quirky about it. Although with all the hipster, Millenium burger joints in London, going to McDonalds is a hipster act on its own!
