Another burger joint that has been on my list for a while. I need to share the list somewhere, it is constantly growing. Red Dog Saloon is in the burger area of London (Hoxton to Shoreditch you can find a lot of great burger places) and I claim to say it is a great diner-style burger joint. I really enjoyed my lunch I had there.

How tasty is the Motherf*#$&r? – 8.5/10

This was for sure an interesting recipe with an emphasis of the meat. The use of saurkraut and the pork went well with the Christmans theme to be honest.

The burger had:

  • Chuck steak patty
  • Hickory smoked brisket
  • Sauerkraut
  • Swiss cheese
  • Russian dressing
  • Seeded Brioche

The meat in the burger was done properly. The patty was full of flavour and juicy. The meat was really good quality and had decent amount of fat in the cut and was full of flavour. The patty was well spiced yet it kept a purist feel. Not sure what exactly is that Chuck steak cut but it was really good and wasn’t dominated by the brisket. The brisket had the right amount of fat to bring that flavour the meat was a delicous but a bit dry. My biggest critique is the size of the bites and slices. It wasn’t easy to chew through, you could easily pull the whole piece so it wasn’t comfortable to eat.

The saurkraut was great, it had more of a polish style since it was slightly sweeter. I was hoping for a bit more acidity in the bites and I think a nice gherkin was missing the full pickle experience.

The swiss cheese was enough and was felt through every bite. The typical creamy and nutty flavour went really well with the sauerkraut and the meats. It was melted nicely and on point.

The russian dressing was in a really good amount it wasn’t sogging the bun yet nothing was dry and had an enchanced flavour, in combination with the sauerkraut and the cheese it helped for a very classic taste profile. The toasted seeds on the brioche were full of flavour and rounded up the burger really well.

Burger joint venue and overall experience? – 8/10

Red Dog Saloon is a very nice diner style place. Everyone was happy with their burgers. They have a good choice of drinks, I really liked the draft pale ale. The loaded fries sent me into a food coma and the cheesiness was at the right level

Quirkiness level of the experience? – 7//10

This was for sure an atypical recipe. Saurkraut although popular is not frequently used in a burger. The pork was interesting and the whole recipe worked well together.
