Draft House is a place I have visited quite a few times, mainly because of the beer and nice snacks. Burgers have always popped on the main page of the menu but I have never really ordered one. I was having a drink with a friend after work in the City and it is always difficult to find a place with burgers and drink. Especially one I haven’t had a burger at. But there it was…

How tasty is the Motherf*#$&r? – 4/10

I’m sad to say that this is one of my worst burger experiences I have had.

The burger had:

  • Beef Patty
  • Smoked Cheese
  • Streaky Bacon
  • Smoked Mayo
  • Pickles
  • Brioche Bun

The meat was well done, it wasn’t very juicy but I have had worse from that perspective. I was hoping for more flavour but the lean patty didn’t give me much to work with. There weren’t any spices to highlight the meat. I have had similar patties, frequently surrounded by a great choice of condiments to make them work into a tasty burger. This time, I also had boiling hot insides of a burger with a cold bun. Considering the burger was dry and the insides were extremely hot, this leads me to believe the patty was microwaved. I hope my taste buds are wrong and that I’m being extremely pretentious.
The smoked bacon wasn’t cooked well and was pretty hard but it did have a lot of flavour which kind of helped the meaty experience.

The other problem with the burger was the bun. It was cold, not toasted, without any dressing or sauce. This contributed to the overall dry experience of the burger. Even after squeezing it and putting it away for a few minutes (because it was too hot) the bun remained pretty dry. It was only the middlle bites

The bit that saved the burger was the pickles, mayo and cheese (which were pushed a bit too much towards the centre). The smoked cheese with the smoked mayo helped with giving the burger character. You could feel the smokiness and the cheese in every bite. Together with the brightness of the pickle, it rounded it up.

This place needs to fully rework their burgers

Burger joint venue and overall experience? – 5/10

The fries weren’t good, bland and didn’t really seemed tripple fried as it was stated but the beer choice compensates.

Quirkiness level of the experience? – 3/10

Except for the extremly hot patty I don’t see anything quirky about the burger
