Yesterday I went with my partner in crime to see Tommy Guerrero in Camden. It was an absolutely great jazz concert if you haven’t heard of the guy you should give it a listen. Beforehand we were on a burger quest though, and that quest led us to Mildreds it was a recommended vegetarian restaurant that apparently make a killer burgers. I haven’t had a vegetarian burger in a while and I had to do one.

How tasty is the Motherf*#$&r? – 9/10

Recently the vegeterian/vegan burger I have tried that I have liked have always been with the plant based meats. They were simply trying to match the taste of a good beef without acually being a meat but not actually embrasing their vegetarian nature. The Polish was a different beast, a tasty one.

The burger had:

  • Beetroot, beans, courgets (patty)
  • Pickled Red Cabbage
  • Gherkins
  • Garlic Aioli + Cottage Cheese
  • Lettuce
  • Brioche Bun

The patty was for sure the centerpeice of the burger. The taste would be very familiar to any Balkan or Middleeastern foodie. Fried courgets on the outside give a very specific flavour and were helping to hold the patty. It was going great with the garlic in tha aioli and the cottage cheese that was added around it and really hit a nostaliga point with me. The patty was with thick bodied from the beans and with amazing color and sweetness coming from the beetroot. This is a patty I absolutely love and I’m going to try at home.

The second part of the burger where light improvement is needed. It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t right, it could have easily been a 10 IMO. The pickles weren’t strong enough, I expected more acidity and saltiness to balance the sweetness of the patty. The punch was simply not there and it would have killed it. The lettuce was a lot and could dominate some of the less meaty bites so few leaves less woul have made it better

Brioche bun was tasty and exactly what you would exepct. It rounded the burger and with less lettuce I think it was going to be a bit more saucy.

Burger joint venue and overall experience? – 9/10

It is a really stylish place with really good atmosphere if you want to get your vegetarian friend out for dinner I do recommend this place even if you are not coming for burgers.

The fries were absolutely brutal (in a good way). And they came with cream cheese dip which made crispy fries even better. I have had a lot of luck with chips in my recent burger visits and I’m just going to say it again, one of the best fries I have tried

Quirkiness level of the experience? – 8//10

Vegetarian burgers that are not plant-based meats haven’t been the highlight of my burger hunts so far but this one is actually good. It is an interesting recipe that holds its own and isn’t trying to replicate a regular burger which I respect!
