Yen Burger was one of those joints that had variety. Which meant when I’m with my partner in crime we are going to grab two different burgers and try them both. We always like going for a classic burger and something more quirky. The Surf N Turf was a choice I haven’t had in a while.

How tasty is the Motherf*#$&r? – 9.5/10

Yen Burger’sSurf N Turf is for sure one of the best I have had. Previous attempts haven’t been very successful so I have stayed away from Surf N Turf burgers ever since I started the blog.

The burger had:

  • Angus Beef
  • Grilled Prawns
  • Lime
  • Tomatoes
  • Coriander
  • Red Onion
  • Sweet chilli
  • Cheese
  • Steamed Bun

This was a very tasty patty. The Angus beef was full of flavour and was giving the right amount of flavour without shadowing the rest of the ingredients. The cut and quality were great I even think it was lightly spiced. The balance between turf and surf was great and through every bite both the beef and the prawns were present. The prawns were grilled and the lime was bringing a lot in their taste. Combined with the sweet chilli the meat was getting this great Asian cuisine feel through every bite.

The cheese was an optional addon and we opt-in and this was the biggest mistake of the burger. The reason why this isn’t a 10 is the cheese because it felt absolutely obsolete. There wasn’t any flavour and I don’t think there could have been a cheese flavour that could go well with this direction of the Surf N Turf.

The salad is where the burger balanced out. It brought the brightness with the lime coriander and red onion. Every time you had a nice solid beef bite the salad was slowly taking over complimenting the prawns and finishing with the sauces. The salad was that bridge that connected everything together and just worked so well.

The steamed bun was a great holder for all the ingredients. It stayed very neutral and let all the ingredients shine.

Burger joint venue and overall experience? – 9/10

These are some of the best fries I have tried in my life. It is strange how a simple spice from another part of the world can completely change and improve a food that you are familiar with. This is exactly what happened and I do to people to try the fries.

They also have a nice selection of drinks and side. Overall a great burger joint!

Quirkiness level of the experience? – 9//10

I love it when food that you love is changed through the prism and food culture of another country. It is just such a fun way of exploring food and in my opinion, works great!
