I think I have basically gone through all the burger places 15 minutes walk away from work. So sadly I have to repeat however, I haven’t tried all the burgers in places like GBK so there is more material to go through. Recently I have been to many smaller joints with great burgers and the burger chains haven’t performed as well.

How tasty is the Motherf*#$&r? – 6/10

One off Gourmet Burger Kitchen’s signature burger is Major Tom and plenty of times I have postponed tasting it.

The burger had:

  • 30 day dry-aged steak patty
  • Blue Cheese Slaw
  • Crispy Bacon
  • Smoked Applewood
  • Beef ketchup
  • Dill Pickle
  • Brioche

There was nothing incommon between a 30-day dry aged steak and the meat that was in the burger I had. There was absolutely no flavour that hinted aged meat. There were no spices for the patty and the cut was very lean which meant the beef flavour got dominated by the rest of the ingredients. The bacon is the type of crispy I’m not a big fan of but it wasn’t too bad. It was very flavourful and delicious which also meant dominating the patty.

The blue cheese slaw was a very interesting choice. In principal if the recipe was well executed the blue cheese is a great addition to the recipe so it can balance all the heavy flavours. Now it was a bit more prominent in the bites but still quite good, combining well with the bacon.

The relish in the form of the dill pickle was a great choice. It went well with the sauce and the slaw. It was punchy and balanced out well with the rest of the heavy flavours providing that brightness and acidity in the bite.

The burger bun was nice and fresh. A great burger holder that was lightly toasted and not soggy, exactly what you want.

Burger joint venue and overall experience? – 8/10

GBK is still a top burger joint as a venue. They have a great selection of sides and milk shakes. Beer and a burger is a favorite

Beer of choice: Brewdog Punk IPA

IPAs in my humble opinion are the best drink for a burger since they help clear your pallet and are a great refreshments. Brewdog’s Punk is certainly a light staple that will help with that.

Quirkiness level of the experience? – 3/10

Even though a special for GBK there isn’t anything quirky about it.
