I like going to burger places with my girlfriend because that means I can try two burgers without getting too fat. Maybe you have already seen the first one I reviewed – Black Bear Burger. This is something people overlook but as a burger connoisseur like myself, it is important to give my heart a few more years to live instead of eating as many burgers as I want. With the size and heaviness of the meals in Black Bear Burgers, I’m happy I’m splitting. Plus let us face it, you can’t have a lasting relationship if you can’t share food.
How tasty is the Motherf*#$&r? – 7.5/10
It is nice to see the same ingredients for different burgers in a small burger joint. That means they are focusing on the quality of the few ingredients instead of the quantity. Overall my experience with Black Bear Burgers has shown me exactly that. Avoiding the vegetables where they are not needed is also a plus that I have mentioned. You want to focus on the core of the burger
The burger had:
- Aged Beef Patty
- American Cheese
- Beef Brisket
- Pickled Onions
- Garlic Mayo
- Sesame White Bun
The reason this burger has a lower grade than the previous one is expanding on the issue with the meat. Whenever you have strong contenders like beef bristket it is difficult to taste the aged beef batty. Maybe if there were more patties they were going to be feeling better but perhaps I was going to be closer to a heart attack. Now the beef brisket was delicious but in combination with all the sauces it was pretty salty and I can see a lot of people being put off by that. That salt intensity of the brisket also put up its flavour but it also shadowed the patty so I can’t say it strikes the balance I look for.
So far I have been mostly disappointed by American cheese but as I mentioned in the previous burger review I was pleasantly surprised by its strong and creamy flavour. I believe the salt did help with highlighting the taste. Garlic mayo also went great with it and the beef so that was a solid win. Combine all of these with the bright notes from the pickled red onions and overall you got a great burger. A bit less salty and more balance in the meet would have pushed the burger for a ten.
Similar to before the bun was soft and nice but the sesame flavour was not opened up a bit of toast was going to help with that and reduce the sogginess of the bun.
Burger joint venue and overall experience? – 6/10
It was a small burger stand and I didn’t try much from the sides but the choice wasn’t large. But BoxPark as a location is great because you can mix and match food and grab whatever drinks you want.
Quirkiness level of the experience? – 3/10
The burger is very saucy and greasy, so it is a really lovely junk food burger, but the recipe isn’t something unheard of
