Recently life has been very dynamic and I haven’t had the chance to go grab a burger. I’m behind on the reviews so I promise that I will make the sacrifice to eat more burgers and catch up (If I have to…). This week I dedicated some time to jump to Shoreditch BoxPark and try Black Bear Burgers. The photos looked yummy as hell so the hype was there for sure. I really do recommend the area around BoxPark, it is full of nice cosy and pretty streets for walking. If you are a burger fanboy like myself you have plenty of good choice in the area from which to choose from.

How tasty is the Motherf*#$&r? – 9/10

I love when a burger focuses on what is important. Very frequently I’ve felt chucking vegetables with bacon hasn’t worked out very well. This burger goes straight for the throat (maybe the heart) by removing anything that will pollute that meaty greatness. This truly was a great burger with very little missing from pushing it to the ten.

The burger had:

  • Aged Beef Patty
  • American Cheese
  • Pancetta Bacon
  • Onion Jam
  • Garlic Mayo
  • Sesame White Bun

Let’s start with the meat which was the apparent dominant part of the burger. It was good but thinking back I would grab a double patty. One of the reasons is there are so many intense flavours in this piece of delicious heart attack that the beef patty is rarely felt through. The aged beef is prominent and tasty but it wasn’t as juicy, and I would have preferred a bit more of flavour from the meat. Combine that with an extra beef patty, and we have basically a winner. I will return to try… for you guys!
Now, usually, that quantity of bacon would make me question the burger and the balance of tastes immediately. But this is a second time I’m seeing an uncommon cut for bacon like pancetta being used and it is amazing. It is somewhat ligher both in texture and in flavour and doesn’t completly dominate the rest of the ingredients. I absolutely love it.

This is one of the few times recently that the american cheese was felt through out every bite and wasn’t there just for the sake of adding cheese and fat. It was tasty and the flavour was underlined but the garlic mayo. I need to understand what it is in that combination that pushes the taste so much.

The onion jam added that sweetness and signature onion taste that kind of brought all these flavour together.

The bun wasn’t toasted which is a shame because a light toast would of brought up the sesame seeds flavours even more. There were quite a few sauces which I loved but not having a toasted bun made it quite a bit soggy half way through.

Burger joint venue and overall experience? – 6/10

It was a small burger stand and I didn’t try much from the sides but the choice wasn’t large. But BoxPark as a location is great because you can mix and match food and grab whatever drinks you want.

Quirkiness level of the experience? – 3/10

The burger is very saucy and greasy, so it is a really lovely junk food burger, but the recipe isn’t something unheard of
