I started my journey with burger exploration in Scotland a few years ago. There were great places with good quality meat and a lot of quirkiness. Bread Meats Bread was a place I recommended to everyone going up north. I had my first 10/10 there – Bread Meats Bread’s Lamborghini . In the last year since I’ve been there, I’ve had plenty of friends come back disappointed and I always assumed it was the burger choice not fitting their taste and not the burgers themselves. I’m sad to say but they were all right… the King is Dead

How tasty is the Motherf*#$&r? – 6/10

Kali is a very simple burger I haven’t tried and the aim was to see what they weren’t doing well. The more simple it is the more obvious the problems are… and boy they were many

The burger had:

  • 3x Thin Mustard Fried Patties
  • American Cheese
  • Lettuce
  • Tomatoes
  • Pickles
  • Onions
  • Secret sauce
  • Brioche Bun

As usual, let’s start with the meat. It is local, it is Scottish, it is good in taste, that typical flavour is there. But it is in a dry patty, difficult to eat and with not enough flavouring coming from mustard or other spices. It felt quite difficult to chew and was very disappointing considering the potential.

The cheese was a lot and nicely dripping which was great. But, you could barely taste it and when you did it wasn’t much different to your typical processed cheese it was mostly that fattiness that you got from it.

Lettuce wasn’t shredded… why? All your special sauce went there and dripped away. At least it provided freshness to the pallet as it should but that was just highlighting the non-ripe tomato. I remember when I was commending the quality of their veggies and that is simply not there. The onions and pickles were adding to that acidity a classic burger recipe needs and were mingling well with the sauce and the meat.

Bread was great. Lightly toasted and buttered not getting soggy and tasty. But everything else was pretty discouraging coming from the best burger place a few years back. This burger is basically a five guys burger

Burger joint venue and overall experience? – 7/10

They still have one of the best lists of options of sides and I can say it is worth going there only for the poutines and the fries. They haven’t fucked that one up.

They still have a nice selection of beers so overall it is still a decent joint

Quirkiness level of the experience? – 3//10

Nothing quirky about 3x disappointment
