So it was long time since I’ve tried a Byron and I knew I had to review one. I wasn’t as excited as for Bread Meats Bread since previous times I’ve been here burgers have been mediocre but they were due a proper review. Boy was I surprised.  Even though I had an absolute classic I was amazed.

How tasty is the Motherf*#$&r? – 9/10

Whenever there isn’t a burger in the menu that catches my eye I try to fallback to classics. Since I’m a cheesemonger I would always go for a cheeseburger in a situation like that. As mentioned I wasn’t expecting a lot due to mediocre previous experience but I was quite amazed. This is was a very simple and well executed cheese burger. The reason I’m not giving it a 10/10 is because when I’m trying something that simple I expect it to be exceptional in its own way and even though this was a very tasty burger it isn’t there.

Size: Large

The burger had:

  • Beef Patty
  • Byron Cheese
  • Shredded Iceberg
  • Pickles
  • Onions
  • American Mustard
  • Byron Sauce

When in Scotland… eat beef cause it is f***ing amazing. From the chain restaurants I’ve been to- Honest, Byron, GBK, Shake Shack (upcoming) I think this was the best beef patty I’ve had so far. It was well seasoned, juicy full of flavour even though it had to conform to Scottish law.

Not sure what type of cheese this is but it was similar to American cheddar in terns of taste and looks. It was thick enough to make a cheese lover like me happy. Every bite you had that classic cheeseburger taste that I miss from so many burgers now days because they don’t get the balance right like this one

Can I just say that if there is iceberg in my burger from now on I would like it shredded, please. It keeps an interesting texture yet it is easy to bite and very flavourful. It  goes amazing with the onions and for a bit more acidity the pickles hit the right spot.

Last but not least the sauces. They weren’t overwhelming and they were helping hint all the ingredients. American mustard gave that authentic feel and the Byron sauce was like a light siracha-mayo and both really bound everything together.

Burger joint venue and overall experience? – 5/10

Fries aren’t anything special that you would want to come back for but they will fill your mouth and cleans your pallet in between pallets. Combined with an easy going draft pale ale you are sure to go back home happy.  Nothing amazing and outstanding but you can always come back for a good meal.

Quirkiness level of the experience? – 7//10

This is a simple gourmet burger/diner joint. You won’t get anything too quirky out of here except maybe for some of the monthly burgers.
