So I was out on a food market exploration and suddenly I stumbled across a small burger stand that intrigued me – Ramen Burgers. And boy, was I happy to try something new with a twist. I’m glad that the burger managed to impress me and even though  I believe recipe can be improved and polished I bloody loved it.

How tasty is the Motherf*#$&r? – 7.5/10

This is a very interesting burger. And when you look at it what you would expect is an east/south Asian twist to it and that is exactly what you get. At least that is the impression I got and if this is the direction that the Chef is going than oh boy the possibilities are limitless.

The burger had:

  • Beef Patty
  • Ramen Bun
  • Pulled Pork in BBQ sauce
  • Egg
  • Lettuce
  • Sweet Chilli sauce
  • Cheddar

So as usual let us start with the meat in this beauty.

The beef was tasty but you could barely appreciate it since most of its taste is masked by the strong pulled pork. The pulled pork wasn’t anything special, was quite good and the sauce was very sweet which also contributed to the balance of the burger negatively. Non the less it was tasty experience that required more taste tuning.

Let’s talk about the main feature of this burger… the ramen bun. I love it. A great idea and very well executed. It is slightly crunchy yet soft it really gives you that stir fry feel and is something very original so I’m loving it. For some, it maybe to greasy but I’m not running away from a heart attack so I don’t mind it.

Cheese. No. Remove it. Couldn’t taste it, you don’t need it unless you find a specific taste to fit that “Asian” style burger and I doubt it. I don’t like when the cheese is there just for the sake of  calling it a burger.

The sauce was good slightly spicy but I would of went for more on the spicy side and less on the sweet one because the burger starts to feel a bit like a desert rather than savory food. If you make it slightly spicy and add some acidity to it you would reach a good balance and add a good balance IMO.

The diced lettuce was great but the one thing I was missing to make it better were spring onions. Non the less the greens were there and you could feel the crunch and taste so I can’t complain about it.

All and all a very good burger. It has the right idea and a good execution but an improved recipe would move higher on the scale for me.

Burger joint venue and overall experience? – 3/10

The problem with this place is that it’s an obscure stand with a simple sign that doesn’t bring a lot of attention. They had some fries but I didn’t try them because I was stuffed so take this with a grain of salt.

Quirkiness level of the experience? – 8//10

Yes it is a burger in a ramen bun, it is interesting. I would of given it 10/10 if the recipe was diving more into the Asian influence. The burger can be improved by adding some spring onions, fixing up the sweet chili sauce and removing the cheese. I have a shredded roasted duck with a plum sauce in mind… hmm…
