I’ve been to Gourmet Burger Kitchen before but that was long ago before I started my quest for the best burgers. GBK has always been a nice venue and a nice burger place but I haven’t really compared it before to other great burgers so here it is. An interesting experience corrected by a great service. This is the second burger I tried when I was there

How tasty is the Motherf*#$&r? – 6.5/10

This was a classic burger and I do believe ordering a burger like this is one of the easiest way to rate the general quality of a burger house. That said I cannot say I was utterly impressed with the quality but it was still a decent burger

The burger had:

  • Beef Patty
  • Red Leicester
  • House Mayo
  • Lettuce
  • Relish
  • Tomato
  • Sesame Seed Bun

Let’s start with the beef patty. Same as the last burger I had in GBK I found the flavour to be lacking. It was neither very well seasoned nor was the meat quality very high, it didn’t have that prominent burger taste that you would expect that I’ve tasted in Scottish burger joints or other places in London. Still better than your average burger.

Another issue I had with it was the salad part of the burger. The tomato wasn’t tasty it was a bit plasticky and you couldn’t really sense its presence. I am definetley spoiled with the taste of good quality tomatoes from back home (Bulgaria) and I know how well a nice tomato can compliment a beef patty. Sadly this wasn’t the case.

The lettuce had a very strong flavour and due to the lack of punch from the other ingredients like the beef or tomato it was quite prominent.

The buns were good however not toasted enough to enchance the sesame seed taste. Like many places the bun felt more like ingredients holder rather than part of the recipie.

Now lets cover the good parts.

The cheese complimented the burger perfectly. You could definetley feel it and it blended well with the rest of the burger and its balance of flavours. This was certainly a big win for me since I’m a huge fan of good cheese on my patty.

Another good part of the burger was the inhouse mayo. It was flavourful it added to the juciness of the burger and it complimented the ingredients. A good mayo is always a joy to have. It also went perfectly with the fries.

Burger joint venue and overall experience? – 6/10

Gourmet Burger Kitchen is a very good join that has a good selection of sides and beverages. The place looks nice and the service is great. The fries were amazing they reminded me for fries made by grandma which always spawns good feelings.

Beer of choice: San Miguel

For classic burgers I do love the taste of a classic lagger. And a personal choice of mine is San Miguel due to it’s typical lagger flavour but not overwhelming bitterness. It just goes down well with a classic burger.

Quirkiness level of the experience? – 2/10

GBK was a good experience but nothing too quirky I would say. This burger was too classic and it didn’t shine too much.
